Defendant (Lizzie
Borden)
You are the defendant, Lizzie Borden.
You have been charged with the murders of your father, Andrew Borden and your
stepmother, Abby Borden. The trial date has been set. You will need
to do all you can help your attorneys prove that you are innocent. To do
this you must follow these steps.
STEP 1: Researching Trial
Procedures
The first thing you
need to do is find information on trial procedures. You will need to find
information on questioning witnesses, defendant's rights, objections and
courtroom etiquette. You may use the links that I have set up for you on the
main page and/or other resources that you may wish to use, i.e. books,
magazines, other web sites etc.
- Takes notes. Hand in your notes to Judge
Eddington.
STEP 2:
Researching the Case
The next
thing you will need to do is to find out as much about Lizzie Borden and her
family as you can. This will be very important in creating your
defense.
- You are required to take notes on any
research you do. Make sure you write down the web site that you got your
information from and hand in. Your notes will be examined by Judge
Eddington.
STEP 3: Preparing for the
Witness Stand
You will be called
up to the witness stand by your lawyers to defend your innocence. Your
lawyers have prepared a list of questions that they will be asking you.
- Your lawyers will give you a list of the
questions they are going to ask you during the trial. Write out your
answers to those questions and hand in for credit to the Supreme Court Judge Supervisor.
- Get together with your lawyers to
practice your answers.
- You and your lawyers will need to develop
a written skit for you to follow during the mock trial. Hand in a copy
of this skit.
- You will also be cross-examined by the
prosecution. Know yourself well so you will be able to answer their
questions.
- Practice, practice, practice your
skit.
