How to Get the Starter Document

You have been referred to this page to receive instructions on how to Open a Starter Document.

The method on this page copies the file from Mr. Dunfee's computer onto your computer. Follow these steps carefully.

You must already know the NAME of the Starter Document before you use the directions on this page. If you don't know the name of the document, click this hand, , to return to the referring page. Then come back with the document name in mind.

  1. Temporarily minimize Netscape (do not close it).
  2. Open Microsoft Word.
  3. Open the document following these instructions.
    1. Click File.
    2. Click Open.
      1. In the "file name:" box, type "\\dunfee\student\*.*" and press Enter.
        (Note: Use backslashes "\", not forwarded slashes "/").
      2. Open the folder that names your class.
      3. Either  Internet Studies
      4. Or  Computer Math 1
    3. Select the document you need and click Open.
  4. Save the document following these instructions.
    1. Click File.
    2. Click Save As.
    3. In the "Save in:" box, select the folder having YOUR NAME under the "Student" folder.
    • If the folder with YOUR NAME doesn't exist, create it by clicking the New Folder icon.
      1. Make sure the document name still appears in the "File name:" box.
    • If the document name disappeared, type it in again.
      1. Click Save.
    1. You are now ready to begin typing in your document.
    2. You may need to alternate back and forth between IE and Microsoft Word (to get instructions, etc., as you type).
    • To do this, press Alt-Tab (hold Alt, press and release Tab, release Alt) one or more times until you see the program you want.
